Kris β€” Co-Founder & CEO, ShishaX

I've been running hookah sessions for over five years. Not casually. The kind where you end up with three different bowl types, strong opinions about unwashed tobacco, and a growing frustration with how much of a great session depends on managing coal that was never designed to be consistent. I've packed phunnels, vortex bowls, Egyptian bowls. I know what dark leaf needs versus blonde. I've had sessions fall apart because of a single bad rotation and sessions that came together perfectly because everything lined up. That second kind is what VOLTA was built to make repeatable.

The frustration that started ShishaX was specific: you can do everything right in a hookah session and still get an inconsistent result, because the coal is the variable you can never fully control. Sam and I had both felt it for years. At some point the conversation shifted from "why doesn't something better exist" to "let's build it." The first version of VOLTA was rough. The version we're launching is not. The gap between those two things is about two years of testing, rebuilding, and refusing to ship something that didn't actually solve the problem.

At ShishaX I write about what I know: heat management, how electric hookah actually compares to coal in practice, setup guides, and the specs behind VOLTA. No surface-level content. If it's on this blog, it's because it's something I've actually worked through, tested, or spent real time thinking about. The goal is that someone who knows hookah reads it and learns something, not that someone who doesn't know hookah feels like they've been sold to.
